When the rainstorm passes, look up into the night sky and you’ll see stars rather than clouds. That means there will most likely be frost in the morning. Frost only occurs on clear winter/spring nights.
By now you’re probably familiar with what to do about early morning frost. If you do need help please follow the tips below.
Your irrigation system should have been off now for months. Backflow prevention devices should be covered with a blanket, as well as outdoor faucets and hose bibs.
In order to help protect your frost sensitive plants such as geraniums, gardenias, citrus, jade, bougainvillea, succulents, avocado, lantana, and cacti. You’ll need to lay a sheet (or something similar) over them. First, use wooden stakes (or similar) to create a tent-like shape, and then lay the sheet over that. Remember to remove the tented sheets in the morning.
When in doubt, remember to insulate, insulate, insulate.
